Fire HD 8
The Fire HD 8 is a budget tablet that is locked down! Unless you have an early release version of these devices you are stuck with the OS as is.
Specs: - 8" HD touchscreen 1280 x 800 - Hexa-core 2.0 GHz processor - 4GB RAM - USB-C (2.0)
Home Assistant
The standard Home Assistant app installed through F-droid works great. Unless the tablet reboots from an update the app stays in the foreground and doesn't sleep. Tried to use Termux:boot
to have Home Assistant start on boot but the FireOS doesn't allow the app to function properly.
Considering going to Fully Kiosk Browser
for start on boot testing. Youtube makes me believe that will work. It will require a paid license since I need to pull the fire tablets battery stats for the smart plug.
Notes: Could I accomplish battery stats by writing a daemon service to pull the sensor data over ADB from the HA server itself? ADB over TCP is already active on these tablets...🤔
