This world shrouded by uncertainty, stress, a fragile chaos. Rises a champion. One who can encapsulate the anxious fear all around, one to free us from the monotony of manual work... Maybe programming isn't some superhero movie or a Hollywood hacker film come to life. My experience reflects a slow trudge through endless documentation, Stack Overflow fu, maybe some videos clips with every coder telling you "You're doing that wrong". Who to trust? Who to believe? Maybe that is the true super power of programmers... Being able to bullshit.sort()
You probably wont find the answer to life and everything within this repository.
What you may find are little projects, documentation, and maybe some tid bits that could help you out in a bind. Really this "blog" repository is a dumping ground of personal docs, the writings and ramblings of a mid 30's tech enthusiast, and a bunch of random coding projects.
I found Linux back in '08 with a copy of Ubuntu 8.04 on a live disk. I was previously a Windows user getting really tired of wiping and reinstalling my operating systems, fixing friends and families systems all to often for no pay. Once I figured things out I quickly saw the light! Server Linux, desktop Linux, ARM Linux, all the Linux | all the time | just yes yes yes 🤤
Up until recently I had been focused solely on systems administration, orchestration, and system deployments. As I grow and my skills improve I find my views and interests are changing and becoming more varied. I 🥰 system deployment and management and I thought what I can't do in bash
there is ansible
, terraform
and python
to get er' done. I think this rings pretty true especially with CI
/ CD
pipelines being so readily available self hosted, GitHub, Forgejo which honestly is supercharging my ability to get stuff done. Let the robots be the potatoes & meat, I'm fine just being the garnish, garnish got time to drink good coffee, hike with the dogs, bike the forest paths out my backdoor.
I am still drawn to a bit of web dev though, I just need to free up some consistent time to work on JS
. Between my day job building houses, homelab projects, all the systems and services I need to manage and maintain, building on my new ❤️ Nix. There isn't much time left to focus on scripting JS
...
I need to get out of the field and behind a monitor all day, that would be so wonderful! save me
eww
JS
. Yup! that was me! 🤦
After getting over myself and ego, I picked up Kyle Simpsons book "You don't know JS yet". Damn! that title couldn't be closer to the truth. Every bias I held against the language I realized was rooted in false knowledge, reddit arguments, and click bait YouTube channels from others who don't actually understand the language.
I think I will try to play a bit more with this in the coming year.
So JavaScript
🤷♂️ and maybe a bit of Google zx because why not merge JS
and bash
? It's surprisingly fun to play with 🙃
